WHAT IS QUILTING MATTERS?
Quilting Matters is a working, teaching studio and as been providing patchwork and quilting classes ‘in the hills’ of Perth since 2005.
CLASSES ARE ABOUT:

- meeting others with a common interest
Quilting Matters offers structured, personalised classes to suit all levels of sewing experience, so you learn the quiltmaking process plus techniques and skills you’ll use time and time again.
Classes are intimate with a minimum of four and a maximum of six students. You are assured of quality attention in a comfortable and enjoyable learning environment.
We particularly love modernising traditional blocks using free-style cutting & piecing techniques, recycling, glorious colour and good design… to create beautiful, contemporary looking quilts.
GETTING STARTED
If you’re new to quiltmaking a five-week Fresh Beginnings course will get you started. It will also suit those who are self-taught and need to go back to basics… or those who require a refresher! We concentrate on technique and design and personalisation is encouraged. Each week is full of learning and plenty of doing… you’ll leave the course with a quilt and a full toolbox of skills and techniques.
It is important for beginners to start with small projects… to work through the whole process of making the quilt top, adding borders, making the quilt sandwich, quilting the project and putting on the finishing binding.
When you know the process, then it is simply a matter of choosing projects and colours that appeal to you.
MOVING ON
Once you are familiar with the basics you can move confidently toward learning more advanced skills and techniques. We offer progressive classes designed to reinforce and expand on your current knowledge and skills… there is plenty of challenge and learning for all levels of experience.
ONGOING SUPPORT
Regular UFO classes (un-finished objects) are available to support you in maintaining and developing your skills.
UFO sessions are a time for dedicated sewing, developing skills and techniques specific to your needs, plus incidental learning via others’ projects. Gather your unfinished projects lurking in the wings and join us to give them a fresh start. Spend time dedicated to their completion… so you feel excited about starting your next project. Bring hand or machine sewing projects. I’ll be there to get you back on track, to discuss project ideas and move you toward greater confidence with your work. Your binding will be on before you know it!
